Dear Janie,

I just finished listening to your wonderful interview with Dr. Pepper and immediately came to the site to look for the new research (May 2009) he promised to send you, that you said you would add to the site. I couldn't find it anywhere, nor was there any update on your blog (it still refers to the 'upcoming' call with him) about it. Have you received it yet? If not, when do you expect it? Will you announce it on the home page when you get it? Sorry for all these questions, but I have an upcoming appt. with my endo and desperately need to convince her to give me a script for Cytomel.

Much thanks for all the wonderful work you do!

Lisa

(From Janie: no, he never sent it. But I have found reference to the article he mentioned, and will post it by the end of the week, I hope.)

Kara,
Thank you for posting this. I am an unconfirmed Celiac and have Hashimoto's. With the reformulation of Armour, I developed a sensitivity to cellulose which has been as severe as the gluten sensitivity. Sure hope this book has some clues for me.

The term 'good doctor' is an oxymoron. This guy sounds like an exception. Am running right over to Amazon...

Appreciatively,
Nan

Hi Janie & all,

I just wanted to post a heads-up about a new thyroid book that focuses on Hashimoto's. (hope this is an okay place to do it! If not, I'm sure Janie will fix it. :) BTW - Janie, I *love* your book, and I've recommended it widely!)

The book is by Dr. Datis Kharrazian, and he does an excellent job of referencing tons of medical journals. I found it extremely informative (did you know that many many people with Hashimoto's also have gluten intolerance - because gliadin (gluten protein) and thyroid tissue are very similar, so the immune system will generally be attacking both!)

Amazon has it. It's Dr. Kharrazian's first book; in addition to his practice, he does seminars three weekends per month around the country, and most of his patients are doctors or very difficult immunology patients.

Amazon had "recommended" the book to me at the beginning of October, since I order so many thyroid books. (I think I'm up to 10 now - yikes!) Since my background is in science (physics), I really appreciated Dr. K's generous referencing of medical journals and his very readable but still technical approach.

Long story short, turns out his practice is less than 30 miles from me, so I made an appointment with him - just saw him tonight for a short initial case review. I would say that I'm quite impressed with him in person, and although his fees are *very* expensive, I think they may be really worth it for me. All in all, having read the book AND met its author, I can highly recommend reading "Why Do I Still Have Thyroid Symptoms When My Lab Tests Are Normal: A Revolutionary Breakthrough in Understanding Hashimoto's Disease and Hypothyroidism".

Best regards to all,
Kara
