James Yang, MD MPH is a board-certified Internist and specialist in Integrative and Functional Medicine. Dr. Yang graduated from the Emory University School of Medicine and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at George Washington University (GWU). He is a clinical faculty member at the George Washington University School of Medicine and maintains an active schedule training medical students and advanced practice clinician students. He has presented Grand Rounds lectures and talks in integrative medicine and wellness to physicians and private groups.
Dr. Yang completed his fellowship training in Integrative Medicine and Geriatrics at GWU. As a Fellow at the GW Center for Integrative Medicine, he specialized in holistic, integrative, and functional medicine and spearheaded the founding of the Integrative Medicine Clinic at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington, DC.
At the Virginia Center for Health and Wellness, where he works with Dr. Andrew Heyman, Dr. Yang’s integrative practice has focused on working with complex patients who have responded poorly to conventional medicine by seeking the root causes of their illness and guiding them on a path toward healing. His integrative approach emphasizes the importance of listening to patients, focusing on the root causes and epidemiology of diseases, respecting biochemical individuality, and partnering with patients to make meaningful changes in their health habits.
A strong focus on understanding functional endocrinology and thyroid dysfunction has been one of the pillars of his practice. Dr. Yang is an expert in integrative treatments for thyroid diseases, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic fatigue, Lyme disease, autoimmune conditions, cardiometabolic diseases, and many other conditions.
