Since I crea­ted this site around Novem­ber of 2005, I’ve had seve­ral of you ask if you could donate, somehow, somewhere. I wasn’t sure how to do that. What I did know is that millions of patients have suf­fe­red, and still suffer…and this site was to help edu­cate you on what we have lear­ned…and that edu­ca­tion, in turn, could be taken to your doc­tors on how to stop the madness.

The Endoc­rine Society’s 89^th Annual Mee­ting is going to occur in Toronto, Canada, June 2-5^th this year. And one of the sche­du­led pre­sen­ta­tions is tit­led: Thy­roid Hor­mone The­rapy: Why Some Patients Are Unhappy.

Now based on that title, you can be an opti­mist and decide that yes…a pre­sen­ta­tion is going to be given that will give a clue why MILLIONS of us are unhappy, unhealthy and ree­king of hypothy­roid symp­toms with a “nor­mal” TSH.…and have been for FIVE DECADES!! It’s enough to get your hopes flying.

But below is what was said by the speaker:

Today, pure synthe­tic T4 is the medi­ca­tion that the vast majo­rity of hypothy­roid patients use. Most phy­si­cians now con­si­der desic­ca­ted thy­roid and the com­bi­na­tions of synthe­tic T4 and T3 to be obso­lete. Since they con­tain both T4 and T3, and T3 is absor­bed and used by the body more quickly than T4, their T3 con­tent can cause some patients to deve­lop tem­po­rary symp­toms of hyperthy­roi­dism (pal­pi­ta­tions, ner­vous­ness) after a tablet is taken. Also, desic­ca­ted thy­roid, deri­ved from slaugh­terhouse ani­mals, may have varia­ble potency from batch to batch, depen­ding on the ani­mals’ diet, the sea­son of the year, and the spe­cies of ani­mal used to make the tablets.

Huh?? That “obso­lete” desic­ca­ted thy­roid is tur­ning lives around 180 degrees! And those “tem­po­rary symp­toms of hyperthy­roi­dism” are cau­sed by low cor­ti­sol in some, not by a pro­blem in the tablet. And finally, funny that those of us on des­si­ca­ted thy­roid aren’t noti­cing any issues of variability.

So, unless I hear dif­fe­rently, I can only pre­sume that in early June, these Endoc­ri­no­lo­gists will only con­ti­nue to be presc­ri­bing medi­ca­tions that do NOT work (e.g. Synth­roid), and making ink spots on a piece of paper (called the TSH lab and range) far, far more impor­tant than obvious hypothy­roid symp­toms in their patients. i.e. they will con­ti­nue the treat­ment which has only ser­ved to keep ALL of us SICK.

And to the list above, I can add any and all mains­tream press media out there. Because you are ALL falling behind. There is a HUGE revo­lu­tion going on among thy­roid patients against DECADES of lousy treat­ment, and YOU are fai­ling mons­trously to see it and report it.

So take heed. We are UNIMPRESSED with your deaf ear and dumb vision and monkey-says, monkey-do repor­ting. There is a LOT more going on than what the medi­cal esta­blish­ment is going to feed you. Millions of patients across the nation AND THE WORLD have been paying an appa­lling price for deca­des due to a con­temp­ti­ble method of thy­roid treat­ment that invol­ves a medi­ca­tion that has NOT wor­ked, a TSH lab range that keeps patients hypothy­roid, and rigid doc­tors who’d rather ban­daid con­ti­nuing hypothy­roid symp­toms with anti-depressants, sta­tins, pain meds, and psycho­trophic meds rather than open their eyes and think outside their Medi­cal School Trai­ning Box. Stop the thy­roid madness!

The needle on the record pla­yer keeps skip­ping over the same note. News/Entertainment pro­grams like NBC’s The Today Show con­ti­nue to pre­sent the same inac­cu­rate globbity-glook that has always been pre­sen­ted by news media.

The seg­ment on today’s April 10^th pro­gram, in a “Today’s Woman” inter­view by Katie Cou­ric with Dr. Judith Reich­man, was only more of the same fla­wed and toxic infor­ma­tion that has kept poten­tially MILLIONS of thy­roid patients sick for decades.

So what if the TSH “is a very simply blood test”, as sta­ted by Reich­man. It’s an INACCURATE blood test! The TSH test, with it’s lousy range, fails to show the pro­blem for years, even while patients have symp­toms that scream hypothy­roid – which of course, doc­tors ignore. And when the TSH does show a pro­blem, the patient is kept within it’s dubious range, and told that those lin­ge­ring hypo symp­toms have nothing to do with their thy­roid. Give me a break.

Addi­tio­nally, it was clear that the medi­ca­tion of choice refe­rred to by Reich­man is the subs­tan­dard T4-only medi­ca­tion, com­monly known by the brand names Synth­roid or Levoxyl. THEY DON’T WORK, any more than an ele­va­tor that only rises to the 5^th floor in a 50 story buil­ding “works”!!

This site does not exist because T4 meds have been wor­king! This site exists because thou­sands upon thou­sands of patients have had con­ti­nuing symp­toms on these lousy medi­ca­tions for years upon years, and have been igno­red and put on anti-depressants, sta­tins, and anti-anxiety meds (to name a few) to coun­ter the very symp­toms brought on by an infe­rior medi­ca­tion and a rigid reliance on a TSH lab test.

To NBC’S TODAY SHOW: if you are simply a mons­trous media machine that regur­gi­ta­tes the same lousy and vacant infor­ma­tion that has always been out there, so be it. Your repu­ta­tion will pre­ceed you. Or, if you want to become known as a orga­ni­za­tion that is UP-TO-DATE and willing to HELP the millions of vie­wers who can poten­tially be watching you, GET IT RIGHT!!! Because what you pre­sen­ted on this seg­ment STUNK TO HIGH HEAVEN and only ser­ves to keep millions of thy­roid patients sick.
